 Restoration Checklist

Many different terms are used when describing the work done to a pinball machine before it is sold. A few that come to mind are 'shopped', 'reconditioned', 'refurbished', 'overhauled', 'restored' etc. Whatever term is used is not important, what is really important is the experience and expertise of the person performing the work. When restoring a pinball machine there are many details and intricacies that are done that don't fall into any specific category, but at New York Pinball we believe it's all in the little details , whether you see them or not. Below is just a basic guideline of some of the details we cover but certainly not all !

checkbox Run all self diagnostic tests to check for errors and compile a list of any items requiring attention.
checkbox Inspect machine prior to disassembly for parts that need to be ordered  (cosmetic, mechanical or electronic parts etc.)
checkbox Take detailed pictures of various playfield areas to aid in the reassembly process.
checkbox Check service bulletins to see if machine needs any updates or modifications.
checkbox Cabinet base and backbox are inspected for structural integrity and are glued and clamped if necessary.
checkbox Disassemble all playfield components to prepare for cleaning, polishing and repair.
checkbox Any loose or stripped screws or bolts are repaired and tightened, any previous hacked repairs are fixed.
checkbox Replace all rubber rings while tightening any loose posts and making any adjustments along the way.
checkbox Replace all defective light bulbs and test all lamps and flashers for proper operation.
checkbox Repair or replace any overheated plugs or general illumination circuits that may have been repaired improperly.
checkbox Check line cord for any damage or missing ground lug and replace if necessary.
checkbox Check fuses to ensure they are the proper type and value to prevent any serious problems occurring from over-fusing.
checkbox Batteries (for memory) are replaced and relocated off circuit board to prevent future damage due to leakage.
checkbox Rebuild and fine tune all flipper assemblies for maximum power and reliability.
checkbox All bumpers, kickers and mechanical assemblies are fine tuned to work at maximum potential.
checkbox Machines are programmed on free play and all adjustment features are set for proper game play settings and awards.
checkbox New balls greatly improve the speed and action of the game, old scratched balls can cause premature wear on the playfield.
checkbox Professionally touch up cabinet artwork where necessary and fill and repair any damages areas.
checkbox Tighten all loose screws, brackets etc to minimize rattles and unnecessary vibrations and give the machine a solid feel.
checkbox Clean and vacuum interior of cabinet and backbox to remove any dust or debris.
checkbox Install new instruction and pricing cards to replace any that are missing or worn out.
checkbox Replace scratched playfield glass if necessary. Note: A pinball machine must use tempered glass only!
checkbox Refinish and paint coin door and install new lock, replace coin return inserts if needed.
checkbox Refinish legs to original finish and install new leg levelers and bolts. Any rust is removed with chemical rust remover.
checkbox Play machine extensively to find any glitches and fine tune as needed !!!!

Playfield Hole Protectors

Many pinball machines have kick-out holes that suffer from wear over time as shown on the left. To rectify this we recommend using these custom fabricated stainless steel protectors as shown on the right.

Playfield Hole Liners

If you don't have damage around the kick-out hole area and want to protect it from future wear, these stainless steel liners do a great job of safeguarding the hole.

Ramp Protection

The entrance areas on the plastic ramps are fragile and known to crack over time. These stainless steel liners do a great job of protecting new ramps and hiding small cracks on your existing ramps.
